Zoey Liew is just an English alias based on the sound of my Chinese name. There's no profound metaphor behind it.
What have I been messing around with?
I was born in an incredibly ordinary, somewhat poor small city in China. My trajectory went roughly like this:
- Childhood: Unjustified overconfidence.
- Teenage years: Pure, shallow comparison with peers.
- University & Grad School: Restless, constantly jumping between black and white.
My career has been even more chaotic: I've done government auditing, sold insurance finance, worked in VC / PE / Pre-IPO investing, and managed e-commerce operations.
Oh, and I am also the proud founder of 3 dead startups (yes, failing three times requires its own kind of resilience).
Why am I here?
Rolling around in the business and capital markets, I've met people from all walks of life. These experiences expanded my perception and showed me the naked truth of how society operates.
But frankly, I'm done with networking. I don't really want to meet more people right now.
By day, I still do SEO and investing in the business world (because cognitive boundaries must be tested in reality). But by night, I prefer to paint, swim, and explore mysticism.
Rather than figuring out the world, I'd rather figure out: who am I?
